Nothing leaves your devices.
RunWindow has no account, no servers, no analytics, and no advertising. Everything it does happens on your Apple Watch and, from version 2.0, the RunWindow iPhone app.
What the app uses
- Heart rate (Apple Health, read) — streamed from the watch sensor during a run so the app can compare it with the window you set. It is shown on screen and used to decide when to vibrate. It is not stored by RunWindow.
- Workouts (Apple Health, write) — when you press Stop, the run is saved to Apple Health as an outdoor running workout, the same way the built-in Workout app does. You control that data through the Health app and can delete it there at any time.
- Location (while in use) — in pace mode only, during a run only, to calculate your current pace from GPS speed. Location is not recorded, not saved as a route, and not sent anywhere.
- Your runs (Apple Health, read, iPhone app) — the iPhone app reads the workouts RunWindow saved, with their heart rate, distance and active energy, to show your run history and time in window. It reads only RunWindow's own workouts and writes nothing to Health. Nothing it reads is stored outside Apple Health or sent anywhere.
- Deleting a run — when you delete a run in the iPhone app, the watch app (which saved it) finds that workout in Apple Health and deletes it. That is the only reason the watch reads workouts.
- Date of birth (Apple Health, read) — only to estimate maximum heart rate for the quick heart-rate zones. You can type an age instead.
- Your settings — the window you set, your unit, age and saved windows are kept on your devices so they're there next time. When you use the iPhone app they are synced between your iPhone and your paired watch directly, using Apple's Watch Connectivity; they never pass through a server.
What the app does not do
- It does not transmit health, location, or any other data off the device.
- It does not collect analytics, crash data beyond what Apple provides to developers with your consent, or identifiers.
- It does not use third-party SDKs, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- It does not require or offer an account.
Apple Health data
RunWindow's use of Health data is limited to the purposes above: coaching during a run, saving the run, showing your own run history, deleting runs you choose to delete, and estimating heart-rate zones. Health data is never used for marketing, advertising, or data mining, and is never shared with third parties. This is required by Apple's HealthKit terms and it is how the app is built.
Permissions and control
You can revoke Health access at any time on your iPhone in the Health app: tap your profile picture, then Apps, then RunWindow, and Location access on your watch in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. The app keeps working with whatever you allow; it simply can't coach on a signal it can't read.
Children
RunWindow is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
